brazilian funk
what it is
Brazilian Funk, also known as Funk Carioca or Baile Funk, is a music genre born in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro in the late 1980s. The sound descends directly from Miami bass and North American freestyle, but it developed its own identity by mixing heavy, repetitive electronic beats with spoken vocals that portray daily life in the communities, ostentation, romance, and social critique. The rhythmic foundation of funk is the "tamborzão" or "volt mix," a 4x4 beat between 95 and 110 BPM built with 808 drum machine samples, punchy kicks, and dry snares.
