deconstructed club
what it is
deconstructed club is electronic dance music that takes club rhythms apart and rebuilds them with jarring, experimental sounds. it emerged in the late 2010s through internet communities and underground parties, often made by artists exploring identity and politics.
what it sounds like
it's aggressive and fractured: trap, ballroom, and grime beats chopped up with metallic clangs, glass breaking, staccato bursts, and atonal textures. the rhythm switches constantly, creating something excessive and almost apocalyptic.
where it came from
it grew from cut-up dj techniques in new york's ghe20g0th1k parties and uk bass labels like night slugs and fade to mind. producers connected online through netlabels like non worldwide and halcyon veil, pushing club music to its extremes.
