trap metal
what it is
Trap metal is a subgenre of dark trap, originiated from the 2017 underground rap scene and popularized by artists such as XXXTentacion, City Morgue and Scarlxrd, with Sybyr taking most credit for being the pioneer. The sound of trap metal is characterized by heavily distorted 808s, harsh synthesizers, guitar samples, aggressive, often screamed vocals and horrorcore styled lyrics. Despite the name, trap metal is not a heavy metal subgenre, as it leans heavily into rap elements with occasional metal samples being the only overlap.
