abstract hip hop
what it is
Abstract hip hop is a style of Hip Hop in which rappers use more abstract lyricism compared to what is more conventional within the genre. Lyrics tend to range from abstract and philosophical concepts, to absurdist and stream-of-conscious thoughts. The language and presentation of these lyrics also tends to avoid the more upfront, visceral language of typical hip hop, instead preferring extensive metaphors, symbolic word choice and cryptic meanings.
